We cancelled our summer vacation this year to handle cutbacks at Jerome's work. We took some smaller trips around our area and we were feeling pretty good about that.
However, a couple of years ago we had bought into a timeshare. Basically, it is time already paid for. Still, traveling with eight people is very pricey. I began to do some checking and found that since we didn't use any points this summer we had plenty and a very nice condo in Alexandria, Virginia has it's slowest points week in the beginning of January.
The wheels began to turn. Driving is expensive and we arrive pretty tired. Flying? 8 of us -- not a chance. Amtrak? What do you know the condo is right by the Amtrak and Metro stations! We can get to Toledo in two hours and travel straight to Washington DC and use the Metro while we are there.
We have never traveled via train before. Jerome and I lived in Virginia many years ago and toured DC by ourselves -- we can't wait to take the kids. We even have dear friends living in the area.
Vacation may have been delayed, but I believe we are going to have a wonderful time anyway.
Isn't that how God often works in our lives? We think that something we have lost or given up is sad, but He had already planned something better down the line.
